Hays County Emergency Information

Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX – Multiple Hays County area public safety officials responded Monday to a report of a suspicious envelope delivered to the Dripping Springs ISD administrative building at 510 W. Mercer Street, Dripping Springs. School officials said the mail was delivered at about 9:45 a.m. and opened at 11:45 a.m. by staff. One envelope contained a white powder and a letter considered threatening in nature and school officials contacted first responders. The North Hays Fire Department, San Marcos Hays County EMS and Hays County Fire Marshal, Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Management responded to the scene. It was determined that 14 staff members were nearby when the envelope was opened and they were taken to an observation area outside. None are exhibiting adverse symptoms. Initial tests by the Hays County Hazardous Materials Team indicated that the substance is not hazardous, but additional tests are being conducted by the FBI. School officials quickly implemented shelter-in-place protocols for the other buildings in the administrative complex and a nearby elementary school, which continued normal operations. Early reports of people being evacuated and transported were erroneous. Authorities are not yet releasing additional details as the investigation continues.
